Revising my GAME Plan

Being able to collaborate with my classmates on a project such as a wiki has been a great learning experience. Many of my coworkers at school find it amazing that a group of people from all parts of the globe can work together on a single project.

A goal that I am still working on is for my students to do a reflective blog on what they have learned in science. The mobile laptop cart has been placed in an empty classroom to become a third computer lab for our school, which has become very popular with all grade levels.

My new learning goal is to do something creative with movie making software and hand drawn pictures to make short science movies. I think that this idea would really get the attention of my students and help them understand various science concepts.

To improve my learning, I really want to set up time with our technology team and discuss ideas and goals that I have for my students and how to get started.

  1. Hello Frank,
Its amazing to think you have 3 computer labs. You must have a huge school. At our school we have one and I'm able to get in it at least 2 days a week. I also have 4 computers in my room for other projects.
I'm not sure what software you have for movie making we use imovie. It is an easy program and I'm always amazed at how adapt my students are to the program. I have also used Kids Pixs to create movies and slide shows and it is pretty easy. If your able to get the kids into the lab I think they will make amazing movies.
I like your idea of getting together with your tech team. They should have a wealth of information and be able to guide you in the right direction.
Good Luck and keep up the good work.

  2. HI Frank, hope you had a productive week. Using the Wiki for this class has opened my eyes to the potential this web 2.0 environment can provide in the classroom. The more I use it, the more comfortable I feel with it also.

I think you will enjoy your movie project. Having your students transfer their knowledge into a visual communication to inform others truly provides an assessment of how in-depth their understanding is about the concept. I highly recommend Photostory from Microsoft. It's a free download and very user friendly. This is a great goal and it sounds like you are much more motivated to attack this one. Good Luck, and I will be happy to help in any way.

  3. Hi Frank,
Your idea about your new goal is very interesting. That’s something all students would like to do, and it will make the subject more interesting for students who do not like science. This idea will surely simplify the understanding of the concept you are teaching.

  4. Hi Frank,
Thanks for the comments. I like the idea of making the wireless labs "plugged"...out batteries are dying! I think my wacky wiki is going to work out this week. It sounds like your wiki is going well!
